Shelly Blair earned her B.A. in Communication with a concentration in Public Address from Point Loma Nazarene University in San Diego, CA. During college, she was a member of the nationally-ranked Speech and Debate Team, and this experience fine-tuned her communication and critical thinking skills. After graduation, Shelly attended San Diego State University’s School of Communication where she earned her M.A. in Communication with a focus on Organizations. Here she fostered her passion for understanding and improving organizations.
She coached debate, taught argumentation and persuasion, and enjoyed mentoring students. She saw firsthand the way fear of public speaking and lack of self-confidence can limit us, and found a way to help all her students grow.
Shelly decided to pursue her PhD at the competitively ranked Department of Communication at Texas A&M. She earned her PhD in Organizational Communication and taught young adults about team dynamics, leadership, and organizational processes with a learn-by- doing focus. She pushed her students to become comfortable giving and receiving sincere feedback.
Shelly spent two years teaching at Saint Louis University, Madrid in an intercultural environment. The students in her classroom were from different countries, diverse backgrounds, and held divergent religious beliefs. She taught students how to navigate their differences and communicate with grace to take advantage of the value this diversity brings to growth and development.
Shelly moved back to Southern California to be close to family, and decided to apply her knowledge and skills to positively impact organizations outside of academia. She has worked in training and development, leadership training, coaching, strategic planning, and talent development for internal and external clients.
